The initial notes are spice and citrus, giving way to Neroli and Rose Geranium in the heart note. The base note is emphasised and has lashings of Vanilla, Australian Sandalwood and spicy notes of Cassia on the dry down. It has a diffusive richness that is suited to after-dark wearing, deepening and lingering on the skin.
Kenshō (見性) is a Zen Buddhist term used to describe seeing ones own original nature. Ken means "seeing", shō means "nature or essence.
Practicing Zen in Kinosaka Onsen JapanThe practice requires dedication to meditation and mindfulness and can take many years to attain, sometimes it doesn't happen at all but the effects are deep and profound regardless of whether one experiences Kensho or not.
Meditating or Zazen which literally means "seated meditation" is the tool used to subdue the conscious mind and ego to allow our original nature to surface. There are two basic types of Zazen:
The first is Shikantaza. Unlike many other forms of meditation, shikantaza does not require focused attention on a specific object (such as the breath); instead, practitioners "just sit" in a state of conscious awareness. Shikantaza refers to a practice called "Silent Illumination", or "Serene Reflection".
The second method is repeating a phrase which is designed to confound the rational mind, this is called a Koan. The definition is: "a paradoxical anecdote or riddle without a solution, used to demonstrate the inadequacy of logical reasoning and provoke enlightenment". This method is not so easy, nor is it as calming as Shikantaza!
Examples Koans are:
Of course there is no answer to the question (Koan). The point being that the student eventually gives up on trying to figure out the answer and thus the mind is subdued.
Here's s a little perfumers tip: If you are the sort of person who tries to work out what is in a perfume, block off your right nostril and close your eyes and smell. Blocking off the right nostril isolates the left side of the brain from engaging in factual, linear thinking and analysis.
The right side of the brain is then able to decipher the odour which is said to be the emotional, perceptive, intuitive and creative hemisphere of the brain. In this way you perceive the nature or essence of the perfume, or its Kenshō.
